Paver Cleaning — before & after

What it is

Paver Cleaning, explained simply.

Pavers are a long-term investment that look dingy fast without maintenance. Our paver cleaning process removes embedded dirt, organic growth, weeds, and ant hills from the joints, then surface-cleans the pavers themselves. If you plan to seal, we recommend pairing cleaning with re-sanding for the best long-term result.

Is this service right for you?

A closer look

Everything worth knowing.

Paver patios and walkways are an investment that fades fast without maintenance. Joint sand washes out, weeds settle in, ants tunnel, and the surface develops a dark biofilm that hides the paver color completely. Two years of neglect can make a $20,000 patio look ten years old.

Cleaning is only the first step. The real strategy is clean → re-sand → seal. Done together, you reset the patio to better-than-new condition and lock that condition in for years. Done in isolation, you'll be cleaning again in 18 months.

Admiral's paver cleaning uses the right pressure and surface cleaner for the paver material — concrete, clay, travertine, and natural stone all need slightly different approaches. We talk through re-sanding and sealing as the next steps, but cleaning is always priced and scoped on its own.

Surfaces & materials

We tune the method to the material.

Concrete pavers

Most common patio material. Color fade and biofilm are the two biggest issues; both clean up dramatically.

Clay brick pavers

Traditional and durable. Cleaning brightens but won't change the natural color variation.

Travertine

Softer stone — needs lower pressure and pH-safe solutions to avoid etching.

Natural stone (flagstone, bluestone)

Variable hardness; we test in a small area before full clean.

What we see go wrong

Common mistakes (and how we avoid them).

Blasting out all the joint sand

Some loss is normal — that's why re-sanding is the second step. Blasting too aggressively pulls more than needed.

Skipping pre-treatment for moss and weeds

They grow back fast if not killed at the root before cleaning.

Sealing damp pavers

Traps moisture, causes hazing, ruins the finish. Pavers need to be fully dry first.

What affects price

Honest pricing factors.

  • Square footage and paver type
  • Severity of joint weeds and biofilm
  • Whether re-sanding and sealing are part of the package
  • Furniture removal and access

When to book

Seasonality in East TN.

Best done late spring through early fall when temperatures and humidity support sand setting and sealer curing. Avoid late-fall sealing if a freeze is in the forecast.

After we leave

What to expect.

  • Wait 24 hours before re-sanding.
  • Wait 24–48 hours after re-sanding before sealing.
  • Allow 24–48 hours of cure on sealer before heavy use.

Why Admiral

The Admiral standard.

  • Clean / re-sand / seal handled by one crew.
  • Right pressure for the paver material — no etched stone.
  • Honest pricing for each phase — no surprise add-ons.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A controlled pressure-wash of paver surfaces and joints that lifts dirt, weeds, moss, and ant hills, and preps pavers for re-sanding and sealing.

Yes — patios, walkways, pool decks, and driveways. We adjust pressure based on paver type so we don't pit the surface.

Yes. We clear joints fully, kill algae at the root, and pre-treat stained spots so the color comes back evenly.

Not when done correctly. We use the right tip and distance for your paver type and re-sand joints afterward if needed.

We recommend it — sealing locks in color, blocks stains, and stabilizes joint sand against weeds and ants.

Every 1–2 years for most patios and walkways. Pool decks and heavily-shaded pavers may need it annually.

Cleaning removes the gray haze of dirt and biofilm. For deeper color restoration, pair the clean with a wet-look paver sealer.
